Whilst I will not be attending court on 7th March 2014 I think that the legal aid consultation has demonstrated what we all knew. Grayling etc do not 'care' about criminal legal aid. They are business men trying to bring business models to an non-business structure. It does not matter what we say or do this will happen. The only choice now is to try and create larger 'ethical' firms to make sure that ABS' don't get contracts OR stop doing the work.
And eventually the system will become unfair and unjust but the vast majority of people don't care about that because the vast majority don't come into contact with it.
We can care about justice as much as we want but it won't make a blind bit of difference.
And as for Grayling looking at the system in 2016, ok he may not get in but I don't see Labour or the Lib Dems standing up to the reforms and saying they'll reverse it because.......? Ah because they don't care either.
