Grayling and Eadie's assertion that prisoners can use the prisoner complaints system is a blatant untruth and one which misrepresents the reality in our prison system. In 2012 an inquest at Northampton into the suicide of a prisoner heard evidence from prison officers that written complaints from the prisoner had not been passed to the prison governor because they had been written in 'unacceptable' terms. One of the prisoner's concerns had been that his cell window had been jammed open the entire winter without any repair being carried out. It was self evident the prisoner had been driven to despair. The prisoner complaints system didnt work for the deceased because the prison staff exercised an overbearing degree of power over the prison inmates. Grayling and Eadie's words remind me of the phrase 'There are lies, damned lies and statistics'. What we are witnessing is the inexorable rise of the Corporate State. Hayek's 'The Road to Serfdom' keeps coming to mind. If you have not already done so, then read it and learn !
