Last year the Law Society said in Boston that lawyers do not have a monopoly when it came to ethics, and ABSs were an innovation which should be followed by lawyers in less happier lands.

"The Law is like a delicate eco-system" according to a previous Law Society President, but the system has been polluted by the gross demands of a market which has encouraged the creation of huge businesses with the potential to make eye watering claims on the Compensation Fund.

As was said by the Legal Ombudsman, and for once I agree with him, there is a fundamental tension at the core of ABSs -do lawyers practise purely for profit or to protect the best interests of their client.You can't do both and it is ridiculous to pretend otherwise.
