Solicitors must be broadminded and gracious enough to understand an appreciate that in view of the rapid progress being made lately in all areas of law, a Barrister has every right to bypass Solicitors and vice versa. I being a former Solicitor Advocate, have always believed that as professionals we must be able and willing to accommodate each other and be allowed to play in equally leveled playing fields and the end game is the survival of the fittest. I could recall the way the Barristers have been whinging ever since the rights of audience in the Higher Courts were awarded to those solicitors, who were selected after a comprehensive fitness testing as qualified to do the job. Almost all, in my view had done and is doing an excellent job in their chosen fields and I have no hesitation in saying that it was proved over and over again that their standard reached well beyond all expectations. So the Solicitors must not do the same mistake which Barristers did and are still doing, don't whinge but welcome them with open arms, compete honourably and give the killer blow in open court before all, the judge/s, colleagues and especially the litigants who sustain both professions. Good Luck.
