I entirely agree, Anon, and I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks so! I do not for one second think Wonga is a great or ethical company, but that is not the issue.

For this to be fraud, (as has been suggested) the effect of the letter has to have been to induce somebody to do something on the strength of thinking the letter is from an outside firm. Why would that be?

The letters say "we have been instructed by Halifax to demand repayment of £600". So what is Mr & Mrs Poor Vulnerable Consumer sitting there saying "we know we owe £600, and we have to pay it, and we have received a letter requesting payment, so we will pay it"?

And then is the suggestion that in the minds of Mr & Mrs Poor Vulnerable Consumer, they would think "oh, if only I'd known it was actually people on the bank's staff salaried payroll sending me these letters, rather that third party employees working for the bank under contract, I would not have paid my debts."? And that if fraud, is it?
