If access to justice is the primary concern, shouldn't McKenzie friends by welcomed for giving some help to those litigants that cannot afford 'proper' legal representation?
Restricting their use simply makes litigants in an already vulnerable position more likely to have an unjust outcome.
In a perfect world, lawyers would be free and every litigant would have all the qualified legal representation they needed, but as that obviously is not going to happen in a world of limited public (and private) funds, shouldn't a more affordable (albeit arguably lower quality) option be available to litigants?
