What stuns me is that a man who genuinely took Silk, rather than becoming a Rayon like our present Senior Law Officers, can come out with the suggestion that we, a "Learned Profession" would induce a client-to-be with an irrecoverable payment or gift of a significant value to "pursue a case regardless of its merits". It isn't that there are quite a few practitioners out there who have got to grips with the need to bring in remunerative work in ways which are definitely imaginative, it is that this Justice Minister suggests that we haven't the nouse to spot a loser before it gets through the front door, let alone pay it to do so and then throw irrecoverable time at what even the most inept claims-handler in the Insurer would slam the Till shut on.
