There isn't actually much law, in the sense of firm, ascertainable, rigid rules, in Family cases. In such matters, a lawyer's skill lies firstly in providing a calm and reasonable intermediary between an often bitter and angry client and the court, and secondly in knowing which way that particular court is likely to jump.

In all other areas of legal practice, of course, there are lots of rules of law, many of which are fairly tricky to get the hang of. In all such cases, a perfect justice system would provide for legal representation for all sides. We don't have one of those, though.
