well this all sounds good and looks good on paper but lets face it, a lot of the so called domestic violence claims are also stretches of the imagination by any measure. The Government cannot continue this ridiculous Legal Aid funding fiasco for ever. There must be limits to public expenditure and quite rightly it should be very difficult to secure Legal Aid funding unless the applicant can prove entitlement. I agree that the new regime has created a 'barrier' to family law, but that is only because it was open floodgates before and the Legal Aid providers are clearly unhappy about the significant drop in revenue. However, in a decent commercial environment lawyers should not be reliant on the Gov to feed them taxpayers money. In America if you drink and drive its a given that it will cost you $10,000 in legal fees. In the UK everyone expects the tax payer to foot the bill. Its a joke. People need to take personal responsibility for their own life. This attitude of the Gov being expected to pay for every ache and pain needs eradication.
