If the parties are prepared to spend £500k on a £3,500 dispute (and Russian oligarchs are not an unreasonable comparison, although on a much larger scale), the judiciary should press the Ministry of Justice to find a more targeted means of compensating for the costs of the judiciary from such profligate litigants, rather than look a gift horse in the mouth. This should also apply to the cases of the Russian oligarchs, and make some money which could be put to good use re-constructing and resourcing our benighted legal aid system.
