Mr Vara, the individuals fighting legal battles are taxpayers. Perhaps the same fiscal argument for the fee hike should be applied to NHS:"those fat people wanting expensive operation should pay for them and not rely on taxpayers" or "old people with dementia should pay for their medication and care and not rely on taxpayers". Or what about education: "those children whose parents don't work should not be educated for free and should do jobs at the weekend to help alleviate the expense on taxpayers".
The Tories don't want people accessing the Courts because that upsets insurers, employers and big business. The so called reforms to our Justice systems and legal aid are not driven by economic necessity but are driven by dogma.
The greatest shame is that the Lib Dems have let this happen and Labour started the whole thing off.
Politicians are an expense the taxpayer can ill afford.
