Thanks very much for that, Anon01.56, I real appreciate your kind remarks. I can recall my father, who died 20 years ago, bemoaning the state of the country generally post-war. But he would always finish his rant by saying that his father said much the same sort of thing to him when he was young! So is it the fate of the young to listen to our ramblings, but the privilege of the old to ramble?

And is there possibly a regional aspect to all this? I trained in Eastbourne 1973-76 and then moved to Chester 1976-77 and then Oswestry 1977-1997 before taking early retirement. The contrast between Eastbourne, which was full of old widows and widowers and the only books you really needed were Williams on Wills and Tristram and Cootes, and Chester where the White Book, the Green Book and the Blue Book would see you through most situations, could not have been greater.

"Every age has iota compensations, David", as my late father would have said. Ours, Anon, appears that of having left the law well behind us.

P S And yes, LS, SRA and SCB are a waste of space. Have you noticed how they have not taken down my post on City bias since I threatened to report Gilbert to the police if they did? I thought we were supposed to be moving into an era of reporting wrongdoing, especially criminal wrongdoing, when we saw it after mid-Staffs, Morecome Bay, Rotherham, Oxford, Bryn Estyn, etc etc
