I have spent the last 5 years working on a pro bono basis for people who are terminally ill providing free legal help. As a sole practitioner I sought a waiver from the SRA to do this. It took nearly 4 years for them to grant it. They caused me so much grief. They treated me like a petty criminal instead of treating me as somebody who had a social conscience. I can see why some solicitors are put off doing any type of pro bono work.
