Peter Ryder: we already have a situation where police don't investigate. In nearly every case where my clients have reported matters to the police recently (including genuine threats to kill, a cannabis farm in the attic of a rented out property etc) the stock answer for our police appears to be "it's a civil matter get a solicitor". It is not just me, my colleagues are also coming across the same problem. and it is not recent, it has been going on for years.
With the hike in Court fees the Government is ensuring that not even litigants in person can go to Court. That is against the spirit and the letter of the CPR. But then this government doesnt care about access to anything, the swingeing cuts on local government are reducing community and local services to nothing, one borough near us is contemplating 3 weekly bin collection cycle yet in our area if the bin bags (we don't get given bins) are not collected immediately on bin day (you have to put them at the front on the road as the men dont come on the property) the crows and magpies, foxes and cats rip the bags open and strew them all over the roads. as I have said before on other posts, the government lives in a "London/SE" bubble - they see only how life is in the City and believe that it applies to the whole country.
