The removal of legal aid from all but discrimination employment cases has had a far greater impact, in most part because those at the end of the line for the telephone gateway do everything possible not to take up cases, but still claim the fixed fee for their telephone advice. The number of cases I have lodged since the introduction of fees has not decreased; my clients either cannot afford the fee in which case we assist to obtain a remission of the fee or they can afford it in which case, if they have a decent case to argue, they pay it.
