Comment

A lot of commenters are getting hot under the collar and using highly intemperate and offensive language about an eminent judge without apparently having read the article properly. The LCJ's comments, as reported here, are in fact almost painfully truistical. The Gazette's headline doesn't accurately summarize them. He says that lawyers are too expensive for many people. He warns about the level of court fees impeding access to justice. He stresses that lawyers (i.e. professional advocates) unquestionably play an important part in the administration of justice. He reminds us however that the justice system exists for the people not for the lawyers. And he points out, in general, the need for the system to adapt to the times. What is there in all or any of this to produce such unprofessional and illiberal effusions as many of those above?
