Mr Goldsmith always thoughtful and always interesting.

The Legal Services Act has had perhaps its most predictable consequence, of law firms going into ethical silos with the Law Society losing power and influence.

Once the Labour Party were allowed to politicise the office of Lord Chancellor, and contaminate the once world renowned UK legal system, it was inevitable that unforeseen consequences would become apparent.

If governments through their ignorance corrode the ethical foundations underpinning the practise of law by trying to turn professionals into legal services salesmen, it was only a matter of time before pressures to generate ever higher profits and slipping standards, would lead to calls for a complete separation between solicitors and the body which regulates them.
The Treasury is now launching a consultation paper to further weaken the profession in a veil of ignorance as to how solicitors should practise as professionals.
