The decline in 'criminal advocacy' is the fault of government cheese paring that has been going on for years. This has manifested itself in reducing funds for expert witnesses, bullying instructing solicitors on court waiting times and going for the 'pound shop' approach to the provision of a criminal justice system.

Criminal justice is extremely expensive from the copper on the street to the cost of the QC and the high court judge. This is of course paid for by the tax payer. Most taxpayers will take the view that criminal justice is expensive for them but not as expensive in the long run as bargain basement criminal justice.
