You don't make £175k per year. Neither do I. Boo hoo.

The point being made is that the people who we would like to have as judges make much more than that. If we want tempt them to the bench we have to make the job more attractive. Not really rocket science.

If you had had the skill and a bit of luck you could have been one of these people for whom £175k represents an unacceptable pay cut. With a bit of skill and luck you could have been a footballer, investment banker or any number of other jobs that pay much more than £175k a year.

You didn't have the skill or the luck. Deal with it.

Be bitter and envious if you like but it won't make the problem less real or the proposed solution less sensible.
