I handle a lot of fatal accident and serious injury claims. More often than not, with these cases, one needs to travel to see key witnesses and discuss complex matters. This takes time. Some cases require significantly more evidence gathering than others. I have settled cases worth £300,000 and earned only £30,000 in profit costs and cases worth £100,000 for profit that is worth significantly more. Every case is different. Every client's circumstances are different. The only thing that would happen would be to drive down the quality of service, and limit consultations with clients, which, when there has been a fatality, or someone who struggles to mobilise is in my view completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

Most barristers that I work with do not understand the effort and time involved in producing evidence, and judges even less so.
