Yes David. A completely unjustified idiotic decision brought by pen-pushing morons who wouldn't bat an eyelid at a City firm charging a Russian Oligarch £20,000 for "photocopying and paperwork administration", but sought to destroy a respected hard-working firm.

The completely moronism of it is that said bills read:-

ITEM DISB CHARG VAT

Conveyancing £500 £87.50
TT Fee £36

TOTAL £623.50

Whereas if it had read:-


ITEM DISB CHARG VAT

Conveyancing £500 £87.50
Legal fees for bank transfer £30 £6.00

TOTAL £623.50

it would have been fine. And if that firm had been licensed conveyancers, it would also have been fine.

On the other hand, only yesterday a client came in with a problem which the factory outfit recomended by the estate agents couldn't resolve. I happened to see in the client's papers the "guide to charges".

These robbing barstewards charge £150 plus VAT for ... "the work involved in ensuring that any registered charges on your property are properly discharged. This fee is payable in full for each and every registered charge whether the matter proceeds to completion or not" !!!!!

In the small print, it read - "We make a payment of £250 plus VAT to Your Move for them having recommended us. We also make a payment of £150 plus VAT for each charge registered on your property, again to Your Move."

So a client is being charged a fee for doing non-existent work (that is actually not done by the conveyancer, but by the chargee) and is then paying that non-existent fee straight to the estate agents!! So not only have we bribed the estate agent to recommenced us, but we blatantly make you pay the bribe for us!!!!!
