But her appeal to the CA had been dismissed. The conviction was therefore effectively by two courts, and it was surely unusual in the extreme for there not to be a striking off in that circumstance. Back then it seems someone at the LS had some concept of mercy, and justice.....not so now!

The case was an appalling indictment of our system, and certainly since then I have never considered that a verdict is necessarily anywhere near the truth.

The defence appears to have been particularly inept, apparently not querying the Meadows evidence with statistical evidence of its own.

But, of course, at that time there was a public "moral panic" about baby murders.....similar to the recent/current "child sex" investigations.
