"...How did he know his client was going to be arrested? .."

I wondered that, but I do know that certain 'Defence' 'Lawyers' the police liked were always allowed bite size chunks of info first of all, provided that they remained complicit (off the record) by allowing the police to bang up the right sorts quickly.

It is only then a short step from that to what the information is used for.

And yes, good isn't it having no competition in the Criminal Sector of work.

Still we can all be assuaged that for example when we are 'interviewed' in police custody those same 'lawyers' (you may be lucky and get a Solicitor out but lawyer = employee with police station basic course under PACEA 1984), will ensure that the police provide all the right disclosure for comment (and go no comment if they don't, and not be assured by their source / pet police officer that all is OK and they have the evidence).

And when they get you to the Mags, don't worry, all that pally pally chat between the District Judge (First Prosecutor), CPS 'Lawyer' (Second Prosecutor), Court Clerk (Third Prosecutor) and 'Defence 'Lawyer (Ok a sort of Defender), is only for show (and according to some in Court I have heard and challenged, "moves the case on" ....
