Absolutely not. Some couples deliberately choose not to marry because they (or at least one of them) do not want the financial consequences of marriage. Consider someone whose wealth is inherited. Should they unwittingly gift a proportion to a new partner simply by the fact of a relationship? The law as it stands is flexible enough.

If there is a wish to protect the public from their own ignorance, it might be better and more popular to, say, legislate that nothing said on social media can be defamatory. I'm sure Mrs Bercow would support that.
