Although words ultimately mean nothing, the fact they get 150,000 calls from business owners does mean something.

The fact they are looking at Uber/Deliveroo and trying to combine this with those calls does mean something.

If they ultimately ACT for those 150,000 firms and have an average client value per year of £1000 then they will turnover £150,000,000.

Now, they might not be profitable doing that. Or they might.

But the lesson to learn is that you can create new services and products by looking outside law.

There is an acronym SCAMPER which comes from a great book by Michael Mikalko on how to think. S stands for simplify. C for combine, A for alternative, M for minimise etc...I won't spoil the whole thing.

There are numerous ways of using this acronym to come up with services your clients don't already have but actually want.

Using this it is possible to have multiple ideas which can be tested for zero money on your existing clients to get more money from them or from other firms clients e.g. Combine accountant email list with your email list and send out a business law/finance newsletter once a fortnight. Easy to do, costs nothing and should generate money if you offer the right service.

Therefore, rather than dismissing ideas (yes, do dismiss the PR) it is wise to look at them and see if there is anything you can get from the idea and apply to your business.

So far, I haven't seen this in the Law Gazette, (but then I am banned from offering any information because I am a "consultant") nor have I seen any good, free marketing ideas being promoted recently.

I have seen a few law firms that are innovating and look like they are worth emulating, but even these get dismissed. Or is it that those firms who see opportunities keep them to themselves and don't comment.

I admire law firms who are innovating, providing great service and doing so profitably. For all the regulations and hoops you have to go through, and a generally not very supportive regulatory structure, I salute you.
