The dinosaurs didn't see the comet either. Much of the commentary above wholly disregards the interests of the customer. Given the nature of the industry as one of providing customer service, that would be amusing if it weren't so sad.

The simple fact is that today's legal delivery system is too expensive for most ordinary people and many companies. Even those that can afford to access that system often shy away due to high costs, inconsistent quality and a generally poor customer experience.

The profession can continue to disregard Prof Susskind and others in the futile hope of maintaining the status quo. Hope is neither a strategy nor a solution. And make no mistake, the industry as now structured is unsustainable and it's protected position will continue to erode. The customers will find ways to get the service they need on a value basis they find acceptable.

The choice is simple: the profession can be a part of that restructuring or it can watch on the sidelines as it's irrelevancy grows.
