The slope is indeed slippery and John Hyde is correct to make the point that he does.

However we are at this stage already some way down the slope.

The top of the slope ,it seems to me, was when Ken Clarke stood up in Parliament a few years ago and said that the government wanted to reduce the number of claims.

This was prior to introducing a number of measures designed to make it harder to claim.

Without a constitution to preserve the separation of powers a very important line had been crossed.

And now any brass necked idiot politician feels they have the right to insult our intelligence and at the same time seek further to reduce the rule of law in this country

For shame.This is no longer the country that I was born in.
