I've had whiplash and it really hurts. It wasn't from an RTA (was a sporting 'incident') and it took a good couple of months to heal. So I don't doubt it's real.

Working day to day on the Defendant side of the fence the problem is simply that to 'prove' you have whiplash all you need to do is convince a doctor your neck or back hurts.

To disprove someone has whiplash requires investigation that is just not economically viable unless you have some sort of inside knowledge that they are lying.

I mean I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't question e.g. how someone who's wing mirror got knocked off by a passing vehicle could possibly have sustained a 7 month neck/shoulder/back whiplash injury.

But question is all I can feasibly do and nearly all claims coming in get paid out.
