I agree with Anon at 10.10. Too many barristers in my view still equate a posh accent with competent advocacy, and I wonder whether this view is reinforced by the fact that the vast majority of judges are themselves barristers by training and of a similar socio-economic background, and are therefore more likely to recognize "one of their own". Good luck to solicitor advocates - if I was ever standing trial for a crime, I would prefer to be defended by someone who was good at their job, but also who is more likely to be understood by members of the jury, rather than someone who is likely to be a member of the same club as the guy trying to get me put away!
