There are some solicitors who "fleece" clients, commit criminal offences, etc. There are, however, 118000 - one hundred and eighteen thousand solicitors on the roll.

I'd be surprised if there were 1,000 fee-charging McKenzie -pwetty-please-can-I-be-a-real-lawyer-cos-I-read-a-book-on-litigant-in-person-costs-from-1976 Friends. Probably a few hundred.

Real lawyers are fully regulated, fully insured, spent tens of thousands of pounds of investment, and years of study, with tests and examinations, and ongoing criteria to meet to be permitted to practice. The chance of your lawyer turning out to be a criminal, incompetent, an obsessive moron who stays up until 3am reading about people's birth certificates not being their real name under the law of Admiralty, etc., are pretty low.

McKenzie friends are - by definition - not qualified, not insured, and not regulated. The chances of getting a moron are pretty high, and the chances of being a vulnerable person being exploited by said moron are even higher.

The McKenzie mindset should be applied to other fields of society.

I think houses are quite pricey. All these muppet builders, charging their high fees, driving round expensive cars. It ISN'T FAIR.

I suggest McKenzie developers. Peter from the pub knows a farmer who wants rid of some asbestos from an old chicken shed. It's down south, but his mate has a moped licence so don't see why he can't drive a 44tonne truck to bring it up here. And we don't own the land either, but I read that in 1564 the High Court of Admiralty said if you state your oath you can build houses wherever you like.

Job done! Housing crisis over!
