I remember when we were told, more than fifty years ago, that nuclear power would make electricity so cheap that it would not be worth charging for it. Funnily enough Sizewell B will eventually ( if built) produce the most expensive electricity of any source.
I remember when we were told that reforms to RTA claims would save everyone £90 on their annual motor premium. I wrote on this list that the proof of the pudding would be in the eating. Part way through the reforms my insurance premium has gone up, this year and last, by a total of over 60%.
It makes me glow in the dark with incandescent anger that the insurance industry can be so divorced form the truth.
