According to Sian Reynolds "parliament must both serve the notice and undertake the negotiations" - not so. Once the notice is served, it would be for the government to take charge of the negotiations guided, if so be the will of Parliament, by appropriate cross-party committees or as may be spelt out in the Act enabling service of the notice, and at the end of that process to seek approval of the final package, again if that condition is written into the legislation.

And of course there is no excuse for the hysterical headlines and other commentaries condemning the judges for their decision, when all they did was to uphold the law as is their constitutional function.
