@16.16. Is that true? S 12 of the European Parliamentary Elections Act 2002 (which replaced s 6 of the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1978) says:
"Ratification of treaties
(1) No treaty which provides for any increase in the powers of the European Parliament is to be ratified by the United Kingdom unless it has been approved by an Act of Parliament.
(2) In this section “treaty” includes—
(a) any international agreement, and
(b) any protocol or annex to a treaty or international agreement.

Hence European Communities (Amendment) Act 1993 for Maastricht (wasn't there a bit of a rebellion in Parliament @16.16?) and the European Union (Amendment) Act 2008(Lisbon Treaty). Did the 2004 Treaty of Rome ever happen? I though we were going to have a referendum (and then debate in Parliament) but it was all cancelled?
