If you are not a lawyer and you read a clause and cannot understand it on a first reading, ask the lawyer who drafted it to explain what it means in simple terms. Once he or she has done so, ask him or her to rewrite the clause using those simple words. Contract interpretation is "the quest to ascertain what a reasonable man would have understood specific parties to have meant by the use of specific language in a specific situation at a specific time and place". So, if the words are clear, there is little room for argument as to the meaning.
