Stephen,

There is no special pleading from me. Maybe from you and others on here, but I have no vested interest in maintaining a slow and inefficient system.

I have practised as a solicitor and I know domestic conveyancing can be complicated, but I'm not arguing for or against so-called 'dumbing-down' of conveyancing. I see that as beside the point.

My point is that conveyancing is just a process, and can be simplified from the consumer point-of-view. I don't see simplification as a dirty word and it's not the same thing as 'dumbing-down', since the work remains just as complicated as before, but the means of delivery change to make the experience easier, cheaper and quicker.

Why is that wrong? It doesn't harm solicitors. It's just progress. You are able to specialise or undertake other legal work.
