I didn't forget that compulsory insurance also pays for the repairs to the vehicle. There are any number of areas where damage is possible but where there is no requirement for compulsory insurance and there are other reasonable measures which could replace compulsory motor insurance which may become more practical following changes. For example the insurance industry has already started lobbying to ensure that compulsory insurance remains in place for driverless cars rather than damage claims being dealt with as product liability.

Further, I never said the insurance industry is trying to prevent access to justice. My intention was to dispute the baseless comment by Anonymous at 13:12 that, "no-one, not even the insurers, wants to see genuinely injured people lose out". The aim of a company is to be profitable and that is not helped by paying money out when it can be avoided whether that is to genuine or fraudulent claimants.
