Lets not forget the substantial windfall the insurance industry received a little over 3 years ago with the introduction of reduced fixed costs in RTA claims following the Jackson reforms. Costs on an 'average' £1850.00 whiplash claim dropped from £1170.00 to £550.00 per claim. Estimates would put those savings in excess of £300 million per year yet motor insurance premiums continue to rise (supposedly on the back of the headline grabbing "compensation culture" that has gripped the nation) despite the number of claims made remaining fairly constant over the last 5 years. The government is mistaken if they genuinely believe insurers will 'pass savings on to consumers' like they clearly did after their last windfall..!
