Yes, Mr Cockshutt, but he said a little more than that. He said that his country had "betrayed" him by pursuing a foreign policy which jeopardized his personal interests. I don't mean he was exceptional in this. A large part of diehard Remainderism appears to be motivated by plain selfishness. But whether Mr Soames' motives are remarkable or not, the language of his postings undoubtedly was so. And I think it was this distinctive combination of naively unabashed self-interest with highfaluting scorn for his benighted fellow-countrymen which provoked the hostile reaction.
