Multiple choice questions are a good way of testing knowledge. Of course you need separate assessments of students' ability to write, draft, negotiate etc. And that is exactly what the SQS involves.

If the New York Bar can set high and consistent standards by using MCQ there is no reason we cannot do the same.

I am afraid whenever anything new is suggested there are always people whose instinct is to object. But the starting point should be that the LPC (and current law degrees / GDL courses) are an expensive way of having low and variable standards. Continuing the status quo is not an option.
