I am struggling to understand why there MUST be further cuts to legal aid bills when there are other parts of society and indeed, the criminal justice process that could do with that knife. Let me help you, Truss: how about further cuts to the benefits bill? I still do not understand why it is ok for someone who has no disability and has done no work to take the equivalent after tax of £23,000 in benefits when a junior lawyer who works like a donkey will not make the same amount after tax. Has the world gone mad? (I shriek!) Ye all don't know how this drives me mad every time I receive my end of year tax statement. Secondly as someone who worked briefly in the civil service, the monies paid to experts to give evidence at a trial is obscene. Why not target that group? They are paid out of same public funds where the defendant is not self funded! Seriously!
