Richard, I do think there should be a cast iron rule that dishonesty should result in a strike off, no ifs or buts. Im afraid my belief is based on the essential requirement of honesty in the legal profession given the duties of solicitors to the courts and their clients.

However, if there was an exception to that general rule it would not be Mr Saunders, who is clearly dearly loved. At the end of the day, it was not a moment of madness or a mad dash to get in claims on time. It was persistently making false claims for public money.

How can people say "oh but he was a man of such integrity," you obviously don't know him! Men of great integrity do not fiddle the books!!!
