Your prejudices against the legal profession do you no credit even if your experiences may cause them to be understood (if we truly knew what those experiences were of course).

However, you are somewhat disconnected from reality as regards professional indemnity insurance. It is an overhead that is required by law and that is incorporated into a solicitor's hourly rate so it can be paid for.

Remove the legal requirement and maybe the rate will drop though I doubt it.

I actually believe there is a place for unpaid legal representation via McKenzie friends or whatever. I have a couple of clients I assist (for free) with guidance in the claims they have made, and very grateful they are too.

But give up the "oooh some solicitors are bad so they all are..." stuff because it's plain wrong.
