Last autumn's report of the Transport Select Committee into Southern Railways (see links on the Parliamentary web page: http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/transport-committee/news-parliament-2015/rail-passenger-experience-report-published-16-17/) blamed all of the RMT, GoviaThameslink Railway (GTR) and the Dept of Transport for the fiasco; the Dept was robustly criticised for failure to provide accurate information. Reportedly, the Government relaxed GTR's performance targets - why? I travel daily on all 3 parts of the GTR rail network and it has been horrendous. It would be wonderful to lock the leaders of the RMT, GTR and the Transport Minister in a darkened room and tell them that no one comes out and no one gets paid at all until the mess is sorted out. And because of the terms of the contract agreed with GTR, the compensation bill is being paid by the Government (i.e. the taxpayer), so there is no incentive for the company to do anything. Bonkers.
