The government has consulted over a very long period and made a decision based upon their findings. The insurers are not saying that the decision is wrong , they just don't like it. They have of course already tried by means of a JR to delay this and failed. They have had their opportunity before the court and the law was against them.
This hastily convened meeting with the Lord Chancellor smacks of attempts to circumvent proper procedures and to undermine the proper processes of government and the courts. It is a repeat of a couple of months ago; decision was made to hold off on the PI reforms affecting soft tissue injuries and the small claims limit; hasty meeting with Truss follows and decision reversed pronto.
If the ABI want to set the legislative agenda, then they should set up as apolitical party and see how many votes they get. As an industry they have no more rights than any other and cannot expect favourable treatment. If I work in say estate agency, do I demand a meeting with the Lord Chancellor when stamp duty goes up on the basis that housing sales decline? As an individual I don't much like having to pay for wars, tanks, pointless quangos and NHS managers. If anyone else feels the same, perhaps we can get together and also have a meeting with Mr Hammond? Whether the DR decision was right or not, it will be a shameful act for the government to change their long awaited decision because of bullying from insurance companies.
