I haven't met the phrase ‘noble cause corruption' before. It's a good one - and it's also one to which the police are susceptible as well as those who act for defendants. 'We know he's guilty; so why not fake a bit of extra evidence to make the case a bit more convincing'. However much you may commend losing perspective and locking on like a missile. it's all the more important if one is representing those with whose cause one instinctively identifies, not to let that cloud objectivity and a necessary detachment.

Is it ultimately more important that one should win or that justice be done?

Not all those who initially inspire one's sympathy turn out to be as spotless as one's dream version of them or one's admiration of their cause, would like. There are one or two I could name, but fear of defamation precludes my doing so.
