The Lord Chief Justice’s comments represent a damming indictment of a justice system now in serious decline, with a Lord Chancellor sadly just pretending while in judicial fancy dress, to defend the fundamentals of the UK legal system.

Cheap soundbites have supplanted sound justice policy, with the MOJ blundering into sensitive areas of the law, such as sexual violence, with crass outcomes for accused and victims alike.

Sir Oliver Heald, a former practising barrister and now a justice minister, should also know better.

I am fearful that a government obsessed with all matters digital, is damaging rather than "innovating" the delivery of justice in the UK for the 21st Century.

The Law Society in conjunction with the Bar MUST take the lead in agreeing sensible modernisation, which preserves the fundamentals of a legal system in a country like ours which claims to be civilised.
