Messrs Maloney, Scep & Robinson, have you read the judgment ? Not everyone of good character who makes a silly mistake or an error of judgement is also a villain. You say they are. Taking your view, the default option is to strike off in every single case, irrespective of the facts. But what does that achieve ? If striking-off is such an effective deterrent, there should be far less cases before the SDT, not more. And there should be no need for SRA investigations, SDT hearings and ruinous costs. The SRA, TLS & SDT use no preventative medicine, only tarring and feathering post-facto. Yet, how many solicitors, barristers and judges have been convicted of drink driving (when they could have killed someone) but continued in practice ? Should every single one of them have been struck off too as a menace to the public ? Time to bring back hanging ?
