What does it mean "instructed"? Even with a lawyer, it does not mean "compelled". This is not like a brief that cannot be refused. This is two private individuals who formerly held senior positions in the criminal justice system happily taking cash to influence the course of justice. What's the difference with trying to influence jurors or judge? They are despicable and so are those who listened to them, which makes the system despicable, too. Yet not a word of criticism here.
