These type of case are not the norm. Most claimants and defendants have limited means and are reluctant to incur unnecessary costs. Here we have 2 very wealthy litigants who frankly do not care too much about the costs of the litigation - the result means everything to them and they are, apparently hell-bent on pursuing the litigation to its grisly end. Nevertheless the Great British Public see these gross figures and conclude that we are all charging similar sums. The Law Society should correct those assumptions and do its best to set the record straight.
