This is not the same as obtaining evidence illegally in order to prove a crime that you know was committed but that you could not otherwise prosecute; the fruit from the poison tree argument doesn't fly in this country (to my knowledge) and therefore in some eyes such action would be considered 'the end justifying the means'.

This is far more sinister and as many have said; could easily have had knock on effects that are impossible to quantify. A dark day for our industry were it not for the manner in which the SRA are dealing with the case.

To attempt to justify such conduct by saying that torture is worse is puerile. Of course torture is worse; would anyone of sound mind question that? But misconduct of this nature, which subjects innocent men and women to such horrendous allegations without a shred of evidence (being generous) is a torture of its own and should be condemned by all who cherish the integrity of the people within our legal system, in the strongest of terms and with the loudest of voices.
